DIVINE RIDICULOUS with Dan Hernandez
An opportunity to play with ideas of psychomagic theatre, awareness of spirit, mask, clown, archetype, story, improvisation, ritual and of course FUN!
During this afternoon workshop we will work intuitively, favouring direct experience over explanations. The workshop will be more like a guided journey or ritual than a class. Over the course of an afternoon we get loose, move, stretch towards a free associating, creative/imaginative, playful open and liminal state in which we will act as a conduit for the crafting of a magical object or spirit - a Mask - with which to dance and undertake our research. The day will culminate in a sharing/ mask jam/party/cabaret of our experiences.
A mask is a powerful tool with which to dive into archetypal realms and conduct dream work in the waking state. The paradox is that in wearing a mask we liberate our life-force energy from the fetters of our habitual character traits. Through hiding, we reveal something vital and truthful about ourselves.
We will have the chance to draw on a wide variety of modalities according to the needs of the group and the flow of the work. These could include: clown, mask, Butoh, contact improvisation, music, voice, tarot, psychomagic, healing, art, body and breathwork.
Anyone is welcome.
What to Bring: Loose clothes, water and a blanket.
My name is Daniel Hernandez. I am an itinerant mischief-maker exploring the ritual roots of performance. The deeper I have dived into teaching, performing, and living in this rich territory, the more I have seen archaic/ shamanic clown and mask cosmologies become fascinating and colourful routes into individuation: containing a vast treasure-box of rituals, dance, liminal states, ancient archetypes and clown-lore.
My performances, projects, ceremonies and workshops draw upon a wide variety of related traditions: These include Dance, Clown, Bouffon, Butoh, Contact Improvisation, Tao/Tantra, Vodou, Mask, Psychomagic, Art, Sacred Sexuality and Breathwork.
I am continually researching and developing my practice through trainings, readings, writings, ceremonies, experiments, and mistakes. My first love was music. I don’t claim to be a master of anything.
It was an absolutely amazing workshop, I enjoyed it a lot and learned some things about myself and in general. In particular I enjoyed the spontaneous way you guided the unexpected parts of the workshop. Thanks for this experience. Workshop participant
It was truly glorious. The awesomeness of embodied reality and aliveness that occurred went way beyond my dreaming when first thinking about this happening... the magic... being on the land... with a tribe... such vastness of love... and such tenderness.... Feel like i was opened up, initiated (a few times!), loved, honoured and returned. Properly grateful for everyone for the depth of realness of self that they brought and such fun!! A very liberating experience. Excellent energy from Hernandez. I really enjoyed myself and connected with hidden aspects of myself. Hernandez really allowed for an environment to play freely within. His close attention to each one of us in turn really nourished this freedom and he was able to draw more out of us than we thought we could give. Workshop participant
